I won't give up...

A few of my friends already noticed that I'm slowly starting - or actually restarting - something I have loved for most of my life: snailmail.

Some weeks ago there was a question circling on Twitter whether there are still people interested in snail mail these days. And if so, interested in what way: postcards (through Postcrossing or just individually), holiday cards, pen palling, etc.

I started pen palling as an eight year old girl. I was home from school due to a concussion, lying flat for a few days but started to get bored after a while. My mum suggested I should write a letter to my cousin who lived in the centre of our country in those days. We wrote letters to each other for years to come.

In high school as soon as I started learning foreign languages (English, French, German)  I joined several penpal clubs to get to know and become friends with teenagers around the world. Also I started writing with friends I made while traveling in the summer holidays.

I have always been interested in foreign cultures and countries and through my friends I got to know more and more about the world around us. And of course I loved loved the letters, the stories, experiences, dreams and secrets we shared. Mannn and the tears, heartbreaks... ;)

And so it still is one of my passions. Even if life came in between in the past years. Like with so many other things.

But I won't give up...

  1. I wish I had had pen pals as a child. I do try to send a card or note t someone 3 or 4 times a week. It gets me out walking to the postbox and I know that people, especially older people, love getting mail.

  4. I still love "real" mail, too, and try to write letters to friends and family as often as I can. It's so much more personal, and having that human touch is really awesome. Postcrossing has definitely become an obsession of mine!
